A Dreamy Banff Elopement: Our Wedding Adventure in the Canadian Rockies

As a wedding florist, I spend so much of my time creating romantic, meaningful floral arrangements for couples on their special day — but this time, it was my turn to be the bride! My husband and I recently eloped in the breathtaking Banff National Park in Canada, and it was truly the most magical, intimate experience.

We spent five weeks road-tripping around Canada, exploring everything from vibrant cities to the most serene mountain landscapes. Somewhere in the middle of our adventure, we paused to celebrate our love and say our vows — making our wedding part of our honeymoon, too. It felt spontaneous, adventurous, and deeply personal, exactly how we envisioned it.

Saying "I Do" on a Mountain in Banff

We chose to elope in Banff because of its stunning natural beauty. Towering mountains, crystal-clear lakes, and fresh alpine air — it was everything we dreamed of for a private and heartfelt ceremony.

Our ceremony took place on a mountain overlooking a serene lake, surrounded by pine trees and sweeping views of the Canadian Rockies. It felt like we were standing in a real-life postcard. The intimate atmosphere allowed us to truly focus on each other, away from the rush and expectations of a traditional wedding.

We were so lucky to have Ash Seinen Photography capture every beautiful moment. Ash has an incredible talent for storytelling through her images, and her photos perfectly reflect the raw emotion and natural beauty of the day. Our heartfelt ceremony was led by the wonderful Married by Cole, whose warmth and sincerity made the experience even more special.

The Details: My Wedding Dress & Bouquet

As a florist, creating my own bouquet was a must! We are a very spontaneous couple so when it came to flowers we went to a few shops to find fresh flowers and stumbled across blush pink roses which matched by blush dress, matt picked out a pop of orange chrysanthemums and I finished it off with one of my favourite flowers a stem of cymbidium orchid! Blending soft pink tones with pops of vibrant orange to create something romantic yet cheerful — a reflection of both our styles.

For my dress, I chose a soft blush pink gown by Milla, a dreamy and feminine style that felt so perfectly “me.” (I never pictured wearing crisp white on my wedding day so pink felt definitely more me!

Even though we were thousands of miles away from home, these personal touches made our elopement feel uniquely ours. My mother made us 'Stefana' which are Greek Crowns (Halos) used in traditional Greek weddings. My brother also gave me a dragonfly broach which i pinned to my bouquet.

Why We Chose to Elope

We’ve always loved adventure and travel, so a destination elopement felt like the perfect choice for us. By combining our wedding and honeymoon, we created a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Instead of a single day flying by in a blur, our wedding memories are tied to an entire five-week Canadian road trip — filled with laughter, exploration, and sing-alongs in the van.

Advice for Couples Considering a Destination Elopement

If you’ve ever dreamed of an intimate wedding surrounded by nature, I can’t recommend eloping enough. Here are a few tips I learned along the way:

  • Hire a local celebrant who understands the legal requirements (thank you, Married by Cole!).

  • Get a great photographer. These memories will last a lifetime — and Banff is just too stunning not to capture. Ash was amazing!

  • Consider the season. We chose winter! Yes it was freezing but he nerves and excitement overshadowed the cold.

  • Make it personal. Whether it’s your dress, flowers, or ceremony location, include details that truly reflect who you are as a couple.

Whether you’re planning a grand wedding or an intimate elopement, I hope our story inspires you to follow your heart and create a day that reflects your love in the most authentic way.
